A Collaboration between John Hitchens and the American composer Peter Dayton began in 2013.

It was inspired by John Hitchens’ painting 'From Sombre Lands', 2001. A second work, 'From Sombre Lands - Orchestral', was painted in 2016 response to the orchestral CD recording of Peter Dayton's music.
